Missouri Delinquency Project

Director: Charles M. Borduin, Ph.D.

The Missouri Delinquency Project was established in 1983 through the cooperation of the Missouri Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Juvenile Court, the Missouri Department of Social Services (Division of Youth Services), and the University of Missouri-Columbia (Family Assessment Laboratory) to develop, deliver, and evaluate treatments for juvenile offenders and their families in the natural environment (home, school, peer group, neighborhood) and to train mental health professionals to provide such treatments. The Missouri Delinquency Project has played a major role in the ongoing development, validation, and dissemination of Multisystemic Therapy (MST), Multisystemic Therapy for Problem Sexual Behaviors (MST-PSB), and Multisystemic Therapy for Autism Spectrum Disorders (MST-Autism).

MST is one of the few treatments for serious delinquent behavior that has demonstrated both short-term and long-term success in randomized, controlled clinical trials with violent and chronic juvenile offenders and their families from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Other MST clinical trials have also demonstrated success with families involved in child protective services due to child abuse and/or neglect, youths with psychiatric service needs, and youths with autism spectrum disorders engaging in serious disruptive behaviors.

Members of the Family Assessment Laboratory who contributed to the research mission of the Missouri Delinquency Project since its inception are listed prior to project publications.
